After completion of the course, the student is able to
  • demonstrate knowledge on the institutional aspects of international governance for sustainable development;
  • apply analytical and  normative approaches  in research on international governance for sustainable development;
  • analyze international sustainability issues as expressions of conflicts of interest between actors in different sectors of international society;
  • demonstrate knowledge on the potentials of and barriers to international governance for sustainable development;
  • assess the effects and /or legitimacy of public or private international governance systems;
  • formulate sophisticated arguments in group discussions.
  • report on international governance in clear academic language.
Content
 

This course addresses the institutional and normative aspects of international governance for sustainable development. It provides an overview of the key concepts and approaches related to the subject. Attention will be paid to the governance capacities of UN organizations in realizing the SDGs and the effectiveness and legitimacy of international agreements and private sector partnerships. Guest-lecturers will discuss actual research topics and approaches.
