Inhoud
Science is a human activity evoking a number of reactions such as curiosity, enthusiasm, disinterest, and resistance among the general public and relevant stakeholders. On the one hand, scientific developments find their way into society and (might) affect our daily lives, while on the other hand societal demands (might) influence the future research agenda and the development of new and innovative science products and events.

Examples of trends, topical issues and developments, that take a prominent place in current debates about science education and communication are, among others, diversity & inclusion, often mentioned in the same breath as equity (e.g. how to organize science such that everybody feels welcome to participate and becomes engaged; how to involve the general public in setting up a future research agenda; how to implement innovative teaching approaches such that STEM topics are presented in a well-integrated way in context-based science curricula; how to adequately address diversity in the classroom).

This 5 ECTS course consists of two distinct, but at the same time connected parts through the shared focus on diversity and inclusion: Trends in Science Education (FI-MSECTSE) and Trends in Science Communication (FI-MSECTSC). Optionally, these parts can be followed separately for 2.5 credits.
