Cursusdoelen
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the ways in which cultural, social and intellectual issues century figure in American literary texts; ability to select and analyze relevant primary and secondary sources and to produce original scholarly work on the topic of the course; ability to identify and apply relevant critical concepts and literary theory to the study of American literature.
Inhoud
This course's discussion of key texts of contemporary American Literature will be predicated upon the following questions: How does contemporary American literature engage with other forms of media? In what ways does it shape conversations about the role of gender and sexuality in American life? What theories of literature, gender and media are relevant to our reading?

This course is part of the In-depth Courses Intertextuality.

Early Exit option (5 ECTS)
Exchange students who are required to return to their home university before January, are allowed to choose an Early Exit option for this course. The Early Exit option means that students can finish the course before Christmas break, receiving 5 ECTS for the course. Students must make arrangements with the course coordinator at the start of the course.

Students should have read widely in English language literature. Students should be able to participate in discussions in English and read and produce English texts (CEFR levels: C1 for listening, speaking and writing; C2 for reading).
