In period 4, this course is also offered in Dutch (B-MLOOP10). The Graduate School of Life Sciences aims to run both courses concurrently. The student will present an overview of results from their self-analysis in their final report:
- A list of personality traits (values, attributes, talents, ambitions and motivations)
- A list of competencies (knowledge, insight, skills)
- A list of team roles (using Belbin’s roles for reference)
- A portfolio of accomplishments using the STAR format
- A reflection on the student’s current level of development and their goals for the future.
The student will support and defend the result of their self-reflection with documentation (personality tests and the like), submitted as an appendix to the final report.
The student will prove themselves capable of discussing the current stage of their development in a final interview using the concepts and methodology provided.
2. Environmental exploration
In their final report, the student will provide the results of their job market analysis, specifically that corner of the market most relevant to their skills and interests:
- pertinent developments (technological, regulatory, commercial, social)
- demands, expectations, options
- personal preference concerning type of organisation and type of position
- a carefully organised overview of interesting organisations with contact details
The student will provide a folder of reading materials that represent their vision on relevant social and professional developments in their field or fields of interest.
3. Objective and Action plan
The student will describe, in a dedicated chapter of their final report, their personal goals and their action plan for finding suitable employment.
- a personalised ‘graduation profile’ with a Unique Selling Point
- personal goals (“course”)
- ideas on where to find opportunities with the desired career profile
- alignment of career profile to graduation profile (“match”)
- the final version of their resume and cover letter
- a graduation schedule that includes intermediate objectives (milestones) as described in the principles of project management
- prepared materials for the job interview as well as reflection on the feedback on the practice interview
The student will demonstrate in a staged job interview that they know how to apply the concepts, techniques and skills they learned.
In a separate chapter of their final report, the students will describe their reflections on the professional job skills they practiced in the training sessions.

The student will demonstrate in training sessions, assessments and the final interview that they know how to apply the concepts, techniques and skills they learned.
This course is the English version of the Dutch course "Loopbaanoriëntatie en Professionalisering" (B-MLOOP10).
This English version is in principle focused on international students. This course is offered in periods 2 and 4. The Dutch course is offered in all periods.
In periods 2 and 4, both courses will be offered simultaneously. Should the total number of registrations for both courses be insufficient to organise both courses concurrently, then the English course has priority. In that case, students of the Dutch course will be asked to participate in the English course. The course dates will remain the same.

The student analyses herself/himself and the work environment. Also to reach his/her goals the student prepares an action plan. Next to this an amount of management skills are trained, i.e. project management, problem solving, personal effectiveness. The class meetings are scheduled on 7 days (9.00-17.00 hrs). The course is finalised with a personal report. Students will be graded.
