Students who have completed this course have knowledge of and insight into:
- the special dimension of diagnostics and treatment in the field of forensics
- the development of psychopathology and links to delinquent behaviour, based on the biopsychosocial perspective

- academic research into the relationship between psychopathology and the risk of delinquent behaviour and recidivism
- underlying factors that may influence the risk of recidivism and the tools that are used in clinical practice to estimate recidivism
- the implications for treatment/guidance
Relation between assessment and objective
Knowledge of and insight into the link between psychopathology, recidivism and risk assessment and treatment recommendations are assessed by means of a presentation assignment during the small-group session and a written assignment.

The lectures cover topics that offer clinical insights into the field of forensics, supported by academic research.
Small-group sessions
The instructional format, the assignment and the literature are explained during the first small-group session. Students are also divided into groups for the presentation assignment. Each of the following small-group sessions focuses on two disorders which are examined from a developmental psychological perspective. Aspects covered include risk assessment, diagnostics (recognition, explanation) and treatment implications.
