• The student is able to explain what a dilemma of integrity is and to provide examples of such dilemmas.
• The student is able to recognize dilemmas of integrity in the practice of doing academic research.
• The student is able to discuss dilemmas of integrity with both peers and supervisors, and to use these discussions to decide how to act when confronted with a dilemma of integrity.
• The student is aware of the social responsibilities that come with her/his position as a (future) scientist.

The course Dilemmas of the Scientist consists of two workshops: one in your first year (course code FI-MHPSDL1) and one in your second year (course code FI-MHPSDL2). Both are mandatory for all students of the Graduate School of Natural Sciences (except students of the master ADS). The workshops have separate course codes because the course spans over two academic years. The 0,5 ects attached to the course are credited once you've completed FI-MHPSDL2. Please note: the talk about research integrity during the master introduction days is *not* part of the course.
This workshop (FI-MHPSDL1) is the first-year workshop. It is intended for first-year master students.
The workshop is offered both in semester 1 and semester 2. When you should take the workshop, depends on when you’ve started your master programme. If you’ve started your master in (or before) February 2023, you should take the workshop in semester 1. If you started your master in September 2023, you should take the workshop in semester 2.
You have to enroll for the workshop yourself, through Osiris, during the usual registration periods.
During this workshop, we will play the Dilemma Game, which lets students discuss a variety of dilemmas of integrity in small groups
