Inhoud
Language is a unique human phenomenon that manifests itself in the many different languages that are spoken in the world and that has many different aspects (structural, cognitive, social, psychological, biological, cultural). Linguistics is the scientific study of this phenomenon, in all its cross-linguistic and many-faceted richness. In this course you will go deeper into a few topics from general linguistics that involve the ‘architecture’ of language (how it is structured) and its ‘processing’ (how it is used) and you will look at phenomena and approaches in the domain of morphosyntax, lexicon, semantics, psycho/neurolinguistics, and computational linguistics (at an introductory level). Cross-linguistic variation (and how to study and explain that) is an important theme through most of these topics. You will learn about different linguistic approaches (methodologically and theoretically) and how you can use these and report about them.
