The course has three broad goals:
1) to consolidate the knowledge and skills students have acquired in their BA programme;
2) to prepare students to write their BA thesis through producing a proposal;
3) to give students insights into the research occurring within their field in the University .

The course content will vary depending on the students’ BA programme (English, linguistics or Celtic) and sometimes on their specialty within the programme (linguistics, literature, creative writing, etc.).
All students will attend a shared lecture (2 hours / week) in which members of staff will introduce students to their research. The staff will come from all three BA programmes involved.
In addition to the shared lecture there will be weekly seminars in which students will be given guidance on: 1) assembling a portfolio of work in which they reflect on what they have learned in their BA programme and how this prepares them for their further career; and 2) producing a written thesis proposal, an obligatory preparatory step in the process of writing a BA thesis.
