The goal of the Workshop Interactive Storytelling is to build a bridge between education, theory and practice through project-based education. Students work together (under the supervision of professors) on an audiovisual product.

Students learn to actively use the knowledge and skills they have gained in their Academic Profile and to make them productive for a professional context. In addition, students are trained in important professional skills, such as communication with professional partners, working in a team, developing ideas and concepts and learning to work towards a specific end product.

Priority rules apply to this course. Make sure you register for this course before June 14, 12.00 noon to be considered for enrollment.
The following students are guaranteed a place:
  • BA Media and Culture
Other students will be placed by means of random selection.

The Workshop Interactive Storytelling offers you the opportunity to use your research skills and media studies knowledge for the development of an interactive audiovisual narrative. In this workshop, students practice skills that are important in the creation of interactive storytelling: research, interactive concept development, camera work, editing and web design.

Students will develop and implement a concept making use of software for interactive narratives (o.a. Korsakow, Dreamhost, Scalar, Twine, Wordpress). Students are free to choose a subject, as long as it is audiovisual in nature, ranging from a media historical to a contemporary topic.

For the creation of the narrative, students can make use of archival and recorded material. In addition to video material, photographs, graphic designs and written documents, interviews, music and other soundbites can be used. Students will get technical instructions, both online and on site.

As a team you are responsible for compiling a production dossier, in which you collectively reflect on your collaboration and the artistic result of your interactive product.

This workshop concerns an orientation on (part of) the professional practice. You learn to work on a project independently and within a team: how do you translate an assignment/question into a suitable product for your intended goal and target audience, how do you divide roles and tasks, how do you address each other about the quality and progress of the work, how do you plan the work, etc. In addition, you practice the important skill to communicate orally and in writing about your work with professionals and with other actors in the field. With this experience you learn to reflect on the efficiency of the production processes and the influence of editorial choices on the artistic quality and content of the product. Moreover, the Workshop Interactive Storytelling stimulates creativity and efficiency in acting and thinking.

The Workshop is an intensive course with technical instructions and a lot of group work (i.c. brainstorm, preparation, writing, recording and editing days) outside the formal seminar times.
Therefore, we ask you to block timeslots A and D for this course. The teams for the productions are formed during the first seminar, in consultation with the participating students.
