Cursusdoelen
Gaining advanced understanding of medieval written culture, in which knowledge of the making, keeping and using of written texts, but also of the principles guiding their study, is acquired.
Inhoud
This course requires completion of GKRMV16019 Medieval Written Culture I. In Medieval Written Culture II, much attention is paid to pragmatic literacy and to the auxiliary sciences, with stress on diplomatic, chronology, heraldics, and archival studies. There will also be classes devoted to the history of medieval communication and literacy. In three written assignments, the students will learn how to report on their study of precise questions regarding editorial problems, diplomatic, and the social history of literacy. There will be one excursion.

The entrance requirements for Exchange Students will be checked by the International Office and the Programme coordinator. Acceptance is not self-evident.

A series of lectures and seminars, in which important aspects of the making, keeping and using of written texts in medieval society are discussed.
