Inhoud
This course studies fundamental issues of form (syntax), meaning (semantics), and use (pragmatics) in natural language. We will explore some (advanced) topics in depth, with a focus on the interfaces among the grammar components. Compositionality and ambiguities of structure and of meaning are therefore important notions. Topics include argument structure, conversational implicatures, scope, and reference assignment. Interactions between form, meaning and use will be studied mainly on the basis of examples from English and Dutch.
