At the end of this module, students will have learned how to write a full-fledged research proposal. They will also have learned how to assess, critique, and edit academic work by their peers, as well as how to provide and process constructive feedback in a classroom, workshop or conference setting. Students will also have acquired at least one of the skills related to the organisational aspects of facilitating a workshop or conference.
This module will focus on the development of academic competencies related to achieving a level of professionalisation that is indicative for any starting academic researcher. In this module, students will learn how to write an individual research proposal which can serve as the foundation for their internship and/or thesis research. The module will teach students to formulate appropriate research questions, methods and methodologies; combine such methods with the appropriate theoretical framework, as well as think through the ethical implications of such methods. It will also incorporate various forms of academic professionalisation like acting as a graduate journal editorial board, pitching an abstract for a journal CfP, and setting up a conference or workshop in the field of new media studies.|
This module aims to teach students advanced academic professionalisation skills, and therefore will incorporate many key examples and case studies from the academic working field.

AlgemeenThe module will consist of weekly seminars, in which the work will involve class discussion and peer-assessment, as well as practical and content-related organisational work aimed at academic professionalisation by editing a graduate journal or setting up a mini-conference/workshop.
Voorbereiding bijeenkomstenStudents prepare an ongoing dossier about methods, cases and theories appropriate to their own research project on a weekly basis. They also need to engage in oral and written peer-feedback that requires reading peers' work in advance for each session, as well as prepare a pitch of their work for an academic audience. Finally, students prepare for a small workshop or conference that will take place at the end of the block
Bijdrage aan groepswerkGroup work consists of organising and collaborating on a graduate journal or a mini-conference or workshop. This may potentially involve connecting the journal or workshop to an extra-curricular new-media or new-technology event of the students’ choice.
BeoordelingStudents will be graded on 1) their ability to collect and critically and productively report on professional feedback on their work-in-progress research proposal , 2) their ability to write a full-fledged research proposal, and 3) the organisational effort and editorial quality put into academic professionalisation tasks.
