Cursusdoelen
After the course the student will be able to
- understand and appreciate different ways of looking at Second Language Acquisition;
- engage with current research on the linguistics/education interface;
- formulate a relevant research question in SLA/education and transform it into a coherent research setup.
Inhoud
Second Language Acquisition has become a full-fledged subfield of linguistics with its own myriad of approaches. This course allows students to broaden their horizons and to (i) get a first row look into current SLA research, (ii) develop a deeper understanding of the foundations of this diverse field by reading up on classical ground breaking papers (iii) discover how SLA research can and should be linked to foreign language teaching research.

Career orientation
The course features guest lectures by policy makers, researchers and/or teachers who bridge the gap between linguistics research and education.
