Students are acquainted with a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies employed by researchers in our department. To evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of of these methodologies students read a selection of books, articles, and working papers that employ. Upon completion of the course students can maken an informed decision about the methodological tools and techniques they want to apply in their own historical research.

The focus of this course is on the practical use of tools and techniques that enable students to explore and analyze qualitative and quantitative historical data. The classes will be a mixture of hands-on tutorials, plenary lectures and collective discussions. Students will be expected to take up an active role in class via (group) assignments and presentations.
