Within this course we will explain one of the hot topics in current condensed matter research, graphene. Graphene is a one atom thick two dimensional arrangement of carbon atoms. Not only does it have remarkable electronic properties, it is also know for having spectacular mechanical properties. We investigate both mechanical as well as electronic properties. Furthermore, we discuss generalizations of graphene, such as topological insulators, bilayer graphene, etc.
