The course treats the basic topics of analysis, such as limits, continuity, uniform continuity, differentiation, etc., also in more than one variable.

Aim
After completing this course students are able to:

• employ basic technical skills in the area of Analysis
• write down a proof
• appreciate the building or unraveling of mathematical theory and its intrinsic motivation and beauty

Format 
Syllabus and projects
Every fortnight special exercises must be handed in. The instructor and his assistants correct and return it to the student for inspection. When necessary, the written corrections are discussed with the students. Thus, these exercises serve as an integrated component of the learning process.

Mathematica
The course the computer package Mathematica is used as a tool for computations.

• preparing for the next lecture by reading the corresponding part of the lecture notes,
• finishing the elaboration of the hand-in exercises and handing them in,
• studying the corrections on the previous exercises that is returned each fortnight to make sure everything is clear.

During these activities, if it appears that earlier material is not yet completely understood, students study the material again; it is characteristic for mathematical comprehension that repeated attempts with intermissions are required. Students are likely going to ‘get stuck’ when working on the exercises or lecture notes. During the practical work session, students can ask the assistant for help or an explanation.

Preparation
In addition to the four contact hours, each student is expected to work ten hours per week on the course.
